  4. StatBar is a utility to view free system resources and
  5. drive space, as well as an application launcher. It is
  6. being released as freeware (note that freeware DOES NOT
  7. mean public domain...see the legal section below for more
  8. details).
  9.  
  10. No registration fee is required, but we'd appreciate
  11. sending us your name, address and e-mail address if you
  12. plan to continue to use this software. This information is
  13. for our records only and we will NEVER give out or sell
  14. the information, for any reason. If you do wish to send
  15. a registration fee to us anyway, send what you feel the
  16. program is worth to you. All money will be used to upgrade
  17. our development tools to further enhance StatBar 96 and
  18. other programs we're working on. Make checks or money
  19. orders payable to David M. Fornalsky. Remember, however,
  20. that no registration fee is required.

  23. Installation:
  24.  
  25. StatBar 96 has been tested on Windows 95, but should run
  26. correctly on both Win95 and Windows NT 3.51. It will not
  27. run on previous versions of Windows, including Win32s,
  28. or on Windows NT 3.5 or earlier.

  30. To install StatBar 96, uncompress the zip file that
  31. contains the program and run SETUP.EXE. To uninstall
  32. StatBar 96, go to the Control Panel and select 'Add/Remove
  33. Programs'. From the resulting dialog box select StatBar 96
  34. and click the 'Add/Remove...' button. The software will
  35. automatically be removed.

  38. Description of features:
  39.  
  40. Application Launcher:
  41. The first tab on the StatBar called 'Programs' is the
  42. application launcher. To add an application, click the
  43. 'Add' button and select the program you wish to add. To
  44. move a program up or down in the list, or to change the
  45. name or remove it from the list, click the 'Edit' button.
  46. To launch an application, simply double-click on it's
  47. name.

  49. Drive Monitor:
  50. The second tab contains a list of free space for all the
  51. drives in your system or mapped from a network. To refesh
  52. the list click the 'Update' button. For more information
  53. about a specific drive, double-click on it or select the
  54. 'Info' button.

  56. Options Dialog:
  57.  * 'Warn on exit' will display a warning before shutting
  58.  down or logging off of Windows, or before rebooting your
  59.  PC. If this box is unchecked, any of the above actions
  60.  will be performed immediately without double checking.
  61.  
  62.  * 'Chromatic status bar colors' will display the free
  63.  resource percentage bars using a smooth color transition
  64.  from green to yellow to red. Unchecked, the status bars
  65.  will be displayed using only the three solid colors,
  66.  green if the resources are good, yellow if they're half
  67.  used or red if they're low.

  69.  * Free drive space can be displayed in megabytes or as a
  70.  percentage, depending on the option you choose.

  72.  * Automatic update will update the drive list after a
  73.    number of seconds or minutes that you choose.

  96. Known problems:

  98.  * Icons incorrectly displayed in app launcher:
  99. Your video driver may not be fully Win95 compatible.
  100. Contact your video board manufacturer for updated Win95
  101. drivers.

  103.  * Icons do not properly refresh after 'Add' or 'Edit':
  104. It has been noted that very infrequently after adding a
  105. new application to the launcher, or editing an existing
  106. one, the icons don't properly refresh and disappear. This,
  107. so far, has not been able to be reproduced. If you
  108. experience this problem please send use a bug report. The
  109. workaround is to simply edit and existing app and then
  110. click 'Done'. The icons should then properly refresh.

  119. Be sure to include a simple description of the hardware
  120. you're running StatBar 96 on (e.g., Dell model xxx with
  121. 16Mb RAM, Pentium 120MHz), and your operating system
  122. (Win95 or NT 3.51). Also include a list of hardware in
  123. your PC that you might think is contributing to the
  124. problem. Include steps to reproduce the problem if
  125. possible. Also make sure to include your e-mail address so
  126. we can contact you if necessary.

  129. Things to test in this release:
  130.  
  131. Our current primary concern is the install and uninstall
  132. process. Please, install StatBar 96, try out it's
  133. different features, and uninstall it. Let us know if the
  134. process failed or didn't go smoothly.

  136. Try different things out and give us your feedback. Is the
  137. reboot process going smoothly for you? Is the application
  138. launcher functioning correctly? Was anything mispelled?
  139. Poke around and let us know.
